AI as a new job search method?

A person looking for a new job usually gets information from company websites or through job portals. With the help of AI, it should only be a matter of time before job seekers and headhunters find each other more quickly thanks to new matching tools.

AI as a new job search method?

Many options when looking for a job

When searching for a job, it is common to ask, read job advertisements, ask your own circle of acquaintances, search on Google or job portals. First-match tools now use artificial intelligence to quickly find suitable employees or jobs for potential employers and applicants.

However, experience has shown that it takes some time before the job is actually filled. According to the investigations of the recruitment company Workwise, the search for the right employee in 2020 took a total of 78 days. But since then, the shortage of skilled workers has worsened to the point that it probably takes even longer today to find the right people.

First successes

This hiring gap is increasingly being dominated by more and more technology companies, which are using apps and other AI-based tools so that potential employers and job seekers can find each other.

A good example is the tech company Empion, which has designed a self-learning algorithm that matches employers and job seekers. According to the company, recruitment under this system takes only 27 days. According to its own information, Empion has submitted the first candidates within 48 hours.

individual questions

Launched in 2021, the company uses a robo-advisor powered by artificial intelligence. Potential applicants can use this guide with individual filters and settings.

To achieve this purpose, the system generates individual questions through chats and also takes into account the person's attention span. The robo-adviser notices how quickly and eagerly potential customers answer questions. Because of this, the system only asks as many questions as are required to create an individual profile.

The constant need for improvement

The algorithm assigns companies to a so-called culture pattern in order to bring together suitable candidates. According to current information, Empion's success rate is three times higher than that of classic online job portals. However, future work will continue to improve question generation significantly.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for AI is achieving a high degree of individualization, as is commonly done, for example, through personal recruitment by headhunters. After all, applicants and companies have a wide range of individual ideas and requirements that need to be taken into account when searching for a hypothetical job. In this case, AI-based tools are required to process the corresponding information appropriately.

neutral mediations

These requirements are quite complex, as many job seekers are interested in different sectors. To make matters worse, some algorithms adopt human thought patterns.

As a result, women often end up in some form of discrimination, including in so-called MINT professions or in male-dominated fields of study such as engineering. So matching platforms should be more geared towards acting neutral in the future.

New ways to great job search portals

Larger job portals like Indeed or Stepstone still have a lot more data than smaller matchmaking tools. Over 500 companies are now registered with Empion. However, Stepstone lists 150,000 companies. In addition, traditional job boards are well aware of the potential of artificial intelligence when looking for a job.

This is why Stepstone has already announced its collaboration with an American startup in order to use AI-powered chats in the future. Already it uses artificial intelligence in the background to find suitable job advertisements for users. AI-based matching portals are still in their infancy. However, a clear efficiency advantage is already emerging.
