According to a source with direct knowledge of Microsoft's plans, the latter wants to integrate AI created by OpenAI into Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and other applications.

For users, this will give them the ability to render a document with extensions from automatically generated text, all based on a prompt. This could also include AI-generated email, composing the user based on what they want to communicate to the recipient.

This is after Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019 to work on new technologies for its products. Since then, little information has been released, although in 2022 Microsoft released the Copilot encoding utility.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Microsoft may use OpenAI's ChatGPT to serve up natural language search results in Bing, instead of a list of links.

Future plans, according to current and former Microsoft employees, could include integrating the same kind of tools into the Office suite, now known as Microsoft 365.
