Google measure, the newest measurement application for Android smartphones, has just been updated to support all the smartphones that support Arcoe. Google measure uses augmented reality to measure any object and distances allowing for example to calculate a volume or even the surface of a room. Arcoe compatible smartphones are relatively numerous in the middle and high end on smartphones that have been out for less than three years. The update comes shortly after Apple announces the addition of a similar feature in IOS 12.
Google measure lands on all ARCOE-compatible smartphones. This very useful application allows to measure everything that is in your immediate environment without using a meter: Instead, the camera, and clever calculations of Arcoe, do the necessary. In addition to measuring distances and objects, Google measure also allows you to measure surfaces and volumes. The first time the application is opened, instructions are displayed to correctly calibrate the image. To measure it is enough then to tap on one point and then on another. The application allows you to save your measurements so you can use them afterwards.
Google measure landed on a dozen of the compatible smartphones Arcot, here is the list
This is ideal for calculating the number of square meters of a room for example. Measurements are relatively accurate, about two to three centimetres away – the exact tolerance is displayed below the measured distance. The update of this application comes shortly after Apple's presentation of a similar feature expected in IOS 12. In comparison, it is regrettable that Google measure does not allow to calculate directly volumes and surfaces, something relatively easy with the copy of Apple.
Originally, Google measure was relying on another project, Tango, and was only compatible with a handful of smartphones and tablets. Here is the list of Arcoe compatible smartphones, which are therefore compatible with the application measure provided they have been updated to minima to Android 7.0:
